Use

• Start with the solid part of the surface: turn the model on the table to show the continents and oceans on the outside of the sphere, then turn the cut-out towards the audience.
• Show the layers in the section in sequence from the surface to the centre: the crust as the thin outer layer, the mantle as the thickest part of the section, the core as the central area. The ratio of layer thicknesses is visible directly in the plane of the cut-out.
• Use a pointer with a soft tip and do not touch the painted surfaces with fingers.
• When the model is examined close up, leave it on its stand on the table rather than passing the sphere around.

Preparation

• Check the model after unpacking: no cracks on the sphere, no chips on the edge of the cut-out and no wear on the colouring of the internal layers.
• Place the product on a level horizontal surface of the demonstration table; the stand rests on the table with its whole support, without rocking, and the sphere sits firmly in the stand.
• Wipe dust off the surface of the globe and off the walls of the section with a dry soft cloth.
• Turn the cut-out towards the audience and provide even lighting: under side lighting part of the section stays in deep shadow and the layers cannot be told apart.

Safety

• Intended for general secondary education, for learners aged 10 and over (grade 5 and above), under the supervision of a teacher.
• Carry the product with both hands by the stand; do not lift the model by the sphere or by the edges of the cut-out, as the thin edge breaks off.
• Do not place the product on the edge of a table, on an unstable surface or near heating appliances — the plastic deforms when heated.
• Do not put sharp objects against the section and do not point at the layers with a metal pointer — this leaves scratches and burrs on the colouring.
• Fragments of a damaged plastic sphere have sharp edges: remove them with a brush and dustpan, not by hand.

Maintenance and storage

• Wipe the sphere and the stand with a dry or barely damp soft lint-free cloth. Solvents, alcohol-based liquids and abrasive powders are not used — they remove the colouring and dull the plastic.
• Check the seating of the sphere in the stand and the stability of the stand periodically; a model that rocks in its support is not used for demonstrations until the joint is restored.
• Store in a dry cabinet or on a shelf at room temperature, covered against dust, away from heavy objects and out of direct sunlight.
• Storage conditions: temperature +5 °C to +40 °C, relative humidity 60 %.

• Complies with the general product safety requirements of European Union legislation. The product is not electrical or electronic equipment, so the WEEE marking does not apply to it.
