Preparation for work

  • Before the first lesson check the set against the specification: base, rod, one 110 mm ring, two 70 mm rings, five bossheads and two vessel clamps. Inspect the coating of the metal parts and the screw threads — the screws should turn by hand without binding.
  • Screw the rod into the threaded socket of the base as far as it goes and make sure it stands vertically and does not wobble. Place the base on a level horizontal bench surface with its longer side (210 mm) facing the operator — in this position the setup best resists tipping forward.
  • Slide the required number of bossheads onto the rod while it is still free: a bosshead can only be fitted from the top end of the rod, and adding one to an assembled setup without dismantling it is impossible. Decide in advance how many fixing levels the experiment needs.
  • Fit the required elements into the bossheads. The 110 mm ring is used for funnels and wide-bottomed vessels, the 70 mm rings for flasks and evaporating dishes, the clamps for vessels and test tubes. Tighten the screws by hand, without tools.

Operation

  • Assemble the setup from the bottom up: fix the lowest element first, then those above it, so that fixed parts do not block access to the screws.
  • When adjusting height, support the element with one hand while loosening the boss screw with the other. A released bosshead falls down the rod together with the glassware it carries.
  • Set glassware in the clamp with its axis vertical and the grip point in the upper third of the body. Place a flask or beaker that will be heated above a ring with a gauze, not directly in the jaws.
  • Check the tightness of the boss screws before every experiment — an unsecured bosshead slides down the rod together with the glassware.
  • Fix glassware at the lowest height needed and keep heavy parts of the setup closer to the base: a high centre of gravity makes the assembly unsteady.
  • Do not force the clamp onto glassware — the jaw should hold the vessel without play but without deforming the glass.
  • Before adding reagents, test the assembled setup with a light push: it must not wobble and the fixed glassware must not turn in the jaw.
  • Do not carry an assembled setup by the rod: remove the glassware first, then lift the stand by its base. Do not use the rod as a lever or extend it with foreign tubing — the threaded joint with the base works loose.
  • After the experiment dismantle the setup in reverse order, from the top down: remove the glassware and let it cool, then loosen the bossheads and take off the rings and clamps.

Maintenance

  • After work wipe the base, rod, bossheads and rings with a dry cloth. Rinse off reagent drops that reach the metal with water and dry immediately: acid and alkali residues destroy the anti-corrosion coating and a corrosion spot spreads quickly beneath it.
  • Periodically clean the boss screw threads of deposits and apply a drop of machine oil. A screw that binds or turns without gripping does not secure the load — such a bosshead is withdrawn from use.
  • Check the condition of the clamp pads and the tightness of the rod-to-base joint.
  • Store the stand dismantled: the rod unscrewed from the base, and the bossheads, rings and clamps in a box in a dry room.

Storage and transport

  • Store in a dry, clean, ventilated room at +5 °C to +40 °C and relative humidity of 60 % (non-condensing), protected from direct sunlight, moisture, dust and heat sources.
  • Room air must be free of impurities that cause corrosion of metals.
  • Operating conditions: air temperature +5 °C to +40 °C, relative humidity 40 % to 60 %, atmospheric pressure 84 to 107 kPa.

Disposal

  • The product is not electrical or electronic equipment and carries no WEEE marking. It contains no hazardous substances and is disposed of as municipal solid waste after separation by material.
