Preparation for Work
  • Remove the transport stickers and the protective coating from the heating surface after unpacking
  • Inspect the power cord, plug and housing; the product is not admitted to work if the cable insulation is damaged, the housing is cracked or the burner is deformed
  • Place the plate on a laboratory table with a non-combustible heat-resistant top, without tilt, so that the power cord does not pass over or lie on the burner
  • Confirm that the mains supply is 220 V, 50 Hz and that the socket is rated for 1500 W and has protective earthing; do not connect the plate through extension cords or adapters not rated for this power
  • Before the first use, heat the plate without glassware for 10-15 minutes at the middle regulator position while ventilating the room, to burn off production residues that cause smell and light smoke in the first minutes
Operation
  • Select glassware with a flat, dry and clean bottom whose diameter is close to the burner diameter; use only heat-resistant glassware without cracks or chips
  • Place the vessel in the centre of the burner, connect the plate to the socket and turn the regulator to the required position
  • Bringing aqueous solutions to the boil does not require full heating - an excessive regulator position causes splashing and scorching of the sample
  • Heat under supervision and reduce the regulator position once the required temperature or boiling is reached: a burner with an enclosed heating element has thermal inertia and continues to give off stored heat
  • Remove and place vessels only with heat-resistant tongs or in gloves, without sliding them across the heating surface; put hot glassware on a heat-resistant pad, not on a cold damp worktop
  • After work return the regulator to the off position and unplug the product; leave the plate in place until it has fully cooled
Operating Conditions
  • Air temperature: +5 °C to +40 °C

  • Atmospheric pressure: 84 to 107 kPa (630-800 mm Hg)
Safety
  • Connect the product only to a power source with the voltage, frequency and rated parameters stated on the product rating plate
  • Keep close supervision when the product is used by students or works near them, and never leave it switched on unattended
  • Do not use the product with a damaged cord or plug, after it has been dropped or with any sign of damage
  • Do not immerse the product or the cord in liquid and do not expose them to moisture
  • Do not touch the heating surface during operation and until the product has cooled: it heats to 320 °C and stays hot for a long time after switch-off
  • Install the product on a level non-combustible heat-resistant surface, 20 cm away from walls, furniture and combustible materials, with no wall cabinets or shelves above the plate
  • Work in a room with effective ventilation and heat volatile and odorous substances only in a fume hood
  • Do not heat flammable liquids or tightly closed vessels on the product
  • Wipe spilled liquid off only from a cold surface
Maintenance
  • Clean the plate only when it has cooled and is disconnected from the socket; wipe the heating surface and housing with a soft damp cloth and a neutral agent, without abrasive powders, metal brushes or immersion in water
  • Remove residues of solutions and reaction products from the heating surface after every session: a burnt-on residue smokes and smells at the next heating and gradually destroys the burner coating
  • Inspect the power cord, plug and regulator regularly; do not switch the plate on until repair at an authorised service centre if the cord is damaged, the plug has melted, or the regulator sticks or turns without changing the heating
Storage and Transport
  • Store in a dry heated room at +5 °C to +40 °C and relative humidity of 60 % without condensation, protected from direct sunlight, moisture, dust and heat sources
  • Do not place foreign objects on the burner and do not wind the power cord around a hot housing
  • During transport the packed product is secured against movement, and the packaging is protected from precipitation and impact
Warranty and Disposal
  • Warranty: remedy of defects and replacement of defective parts or of the equipment for three (3) years; availability of spare parts and consumables for five (5) years
  • Disposal: WEEE marking - not to be disposed of with unsorted household waste; hand the product over to a separate collection point for waste electrical and electronic equipment. Metal parts are recycled as scrap metal, electronic components go to specialised processing
